First Quartet edition. Octavo. Original paper wrappers.
With a long inscription by J.L. Carr on the epigraph page:
“Writing this, two things were in mind - to flesh out the Blunden quotation on this page, and to give an account of how a million or more men spent the War doing very unexciting jobs.
“Much of it is true - the girl on page 1 and what happened to her, the final cricket match, the flying boat crashing amonst the mangrove swamps, then the torpedoing happened & the boat load ahead of us, even the monkey... well I could go on & on. Jim Carr, Jan 21 1985.”
With an earlier inscription to the first page. A very good copy, quite rubbed. Staining to the first couple of dozen pages.
PROVENANCE: Christopher Challis (1946-1997), poet and friend of J.L. Carr.
