Anthony Hamilton joined the court of the exiled James II in France in 1691. This is his account of his brother-in-law, Philibert, Count de Gramont (1621-1707) and the profligacy of the Restoration court.
It was first published in French in 1713 and in English the following year.
The present edition was edited by Walter Scott, published in a single volume, and features engravings on india paper by Charles Delort.
