First edition. Octavo. Bound in the original publisher's boards of Japanese vellum, lettered and decorated in red and black. Upper cover design, head- and tailpieces by Jacomb Hood, three full-page plates by Walter Crane. Housed in a black cloth slipcase with a red morocco title label by the Dragonfly Bindery.
A bright, near fine copy, in uncommonly nice condition. Some light foxing to endpapers.
The first edition of Oscar Wilde's first collection of children's stories, one of only 1,000 copies printed. It includes The Happy Prince; The Nightingale And The Rose; The Selfish Giant; The Devoted Friend; and The Remarkable Rocket.
PROVENANCE: Gilbert Compton Elliot (1871-1931), book collector, his bookplate to front pastedown.
