A spectacular jewelled binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. The firm became well-known for these extravagant bookbindings in the early twentieth century, particularly their infamous Great Omar for the Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam. This example is particularly well-executed, with particular attention given to Tennyson's work, and incorporating its motifs into the design. In all it houses twenty-three jewels, including eight large ones to each corner, and additionally features iridescent mother of pearl dragonfly wings to the front doublure.
