A fine artefact of the seventeenth century Vatican, a finely bound and decorated wallet presented by Pope Innocent XI to Cardinal Neri Corsini. Contemporary brown morocco wallet, 260 × 105 mm when closed, richly gilt-tooled in compartments. The upper division of each cover bears the arms of Pope Innocent XI beneath the papal tiara and crossed keys; the lower division carries the Corsini arms beneath a galero with twelve tassels. Both sides enclosed by double gilt fillets with hatched infill, large fan tools at the corners and foliate ornament. Remains of the original ties at the fore-edge. Lined with contemporary marbled paper.
 
A notably fresh, unsophisticated survival, the gilt exceptionally crisp and bright. Minor rubbing and darkening to the morocco, with light wear at extremities; inner paper slightly worn at the fold but sound.
