The first American edition of Jane Eyre, issued as number 109 in Harper's "Library of Select Novels", and published the year after the first edition. This issue, in a cloth publisher’s binding is not recorded by Smith, but the bibliography makes clear that an edition with an 1848 Harpers title page is the first edition.
