The second Bodoni edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Folio (365 x 240mm). Three volumes bound in one. Bound in nineteenth century quarter calf over marbled paper covered boards. Red morocco title label to the spine, lettered gilt, with gilt tooling to the spine. All edges speckled red. Complete, and with both the cancellandum and the cancellan at p.13 of Paradiso.
 
A very good copy indeed. A little rubbing to the binding. Internally some spotting to the early pages, but otherwise clean and bright.
 
An attractive, tall copy of the Bodoni Dante, described by the bibliographer H.C. Brooks as “a very fine edition, both for its format and for the type employed”. Bodoni published three editions of the Divine Comedy between 1795 and 1796, in royal folio, folio and quarto. This is the second of these, printed in folio under the direction of Giambattista Bodoni, and reckoned by Philobiblon’s Dante Collection to be “the most beautiful of the three editions published... printed in smaller type, making the mise-en-page more harmonious. Limited to only 130 copies.”
