Second edition of the complete Dutch translation. Octavo. Bound in contemporary vellum, with manuscript titles to spine. Engraved title page. A near fine copy, endpapers renewed.
The second edition of the first complete translation of the Quran into Dutch. It was translated by Jan Hendriksz Glazemaker from Du Ryer’s French translation of 1647.
Glazemaker’s translation first appeared in 1657, and this edition followed the next year.
There had been an earlier Dutch translation (by Barent Adriaensz Berentsma in 1641), but this was not a complete translation; it contained only half of the surahs, and was rendered from an earlier German translation.
