A fine pair of devotional works, in matching bindings by Leon Gruel.
Two volumes. Small octavo. Each bound by Gruel in full olive crushed morocco with metal clasps. Metal insignia of a crown above three entwined crescents to each upper cover. Both volumes housed in a morocco box titled to spine “Livres De Devotion De Ma Mere”.
Both volumes in fine condition. The box a little worn. The New Testament with three pages of manuscript prayers at front.
The entwined treble crescents on the cover are the sign for the French city of Bordeaux, after the Port De La Lune (Port Of The Moon), so called because of the way the River Garonne curves through the city.
