Quarto. Second edition. Bound in publisher’s blue cloth, lettered in gilt to upper cover and spine. Twelve samples of leather pasted to the front and rear pastedown, six per cover. Brown paper guards laid in.

A very good example. Some rubbing to spine and slightly coxed, offsetting from leather samples to first and last free endpaper, some pencil underlining and annotation internally, previous ownership inscription to first free endpaper rubbed out, ownership inscription in ink to second free endpaper.

PROVENANCE: Christopher Clarkson (1938-2017), book conservator, with his ownership inscription.

A fine association copy, from the library of Christopher Clarkson, who “transformed traditional approaches to the repair of medieval manuscripts and early printed books and worked to raise awareness of their importance as historical artefacts” (Nicholas Pickwoad).
