Bound in full contemporary vellum, gilt arms to covers with the motto “Martis Et Artis Honos”, further decorated in blind. Red morocco title label to spine, though wanting a third of it. All edges blue.
A very good copy, covers a little bowed and dusty. Generally clean internally with a few marks in the text.
PROVENANCE: Sir William Maxwell of Monreith (1715-1771), his bookplate to front pastedown.
The very attractive Estienne parallel edition of Appianus’s Roman History, bound with an uncommon pamphlet; the first printing of Appianus’s Illyrica from the Augsburg codices.
