Sixth US impression. Octavo. Publisher’s green cloth, lettered and decorated blue, in the original dustwrapper after Tolkien’s own design.
A very good copy in a very good dustwrapper. The book is clean and crisp. Internally there is a contemporary ownership inscription to the front free endpaper, a folded page corner (which is splitting) to p. 57, and marginalia to pp. 57 and 315. The dustwrapper is price-clipped to the front flap, shaving some of the reviews, with a long closed tear to the upper panel, some toning to the spine, and a triangular chip to the lower panel.
The sixth US impression of The Hobbit, being the second impression of Tolkien’s revised edition.
This impression is also the first to have the long notice about the forthcoming publication of The Lord Of The Rings to the rear flap of the dustwrapper, and the first to list the three volumes of Lord Of The Rings among Tolkien’s published work internally.
