Octavo. Bound in an oxblood morocco, blind stamp ruling to edges, five raised bands to spine and lettered in gilt, all edges gilt, gilt turn-ins. Handwritten note pasted to the verso of the title page for the New Testament which reads: 'I promise and vow, before God, to abstain from all intoxicating drink, of any kind whatsoever, at all times, and in all places except it is ordered in sickness or for medical purposes, and this without prevarication or mental reservation. [Signature?] 22nd July 1880'. Transcription loosely laid in.
Seven maps, some of which are over two pages, some coloured by hand.
A good example. This Bible has been subject to use by its owner and bears those marks. Its extremities are rubbed and ribbed by water, internal water marks and toning, tear to title page, front free end paper just holding, lower hinge split and just holding.
