Illuminated with two miniatures of Saints. Saint Fiacre, the patron saint of gardeners, is on the recto, c. 50 x 45 mm. He is shown with his attribute of a shovel in one hand, and a book in the other. Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the most venerated figures in Christianity and the founder of the Franciscans, is on the verso, c. 58 x 51 mm. He is depicted wearing a brown habit as the stigmata are inflicted. Liquid gold halos adorn both of their heads. The illuminations are framed in red and gold borders, and the whole leaf is in a three quarter border with acanthus leaves of blue and gold with floral decoration.
A single leaf on parchment, c. 176 x 124 mm, ruled in ink, c. 100 x 75 (ruled), written on sixteen lines in dark brown ink with yellow highlights in gothic textualis, rubrics in blue, with one and two-line initials in gold on blue and red grounds with white tracery, modern foliation in pencil.
The text contains prayers dedicated to both Saints: ‘Ora pro nobis beate p[ate]r Fiacri’, (‘Pray for us, blessed Father Fiacre)’ and ‘Ora p[ro] nobis beate pater Francisce’, (‘Pray for us, blessed father Francis’).
A very good example, the illuminations are bright, there is some rubbing to parts of the miniatures and script, the parchment is slightly browned, binding holes visible, edges appear to have been trimmed.
