First US edition, deluxe large paper issue, being number 143 of 200 copies printed in Japanese vellum and signed by A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard. Quarto. Publisher’s original blue cloth over pink paper-covered boards, in the original dustwrapper. This limited edition was originally issued in a publisher’s box. The box in this case has falled apart, and the remains have been repurposed into a slipcase.
A fine copy, extraordinarily well-preserved, in a fine example of the rare dustwrapper, which is bright with barely a trace of wear. The original slipcase is worn with loss, and has been repaired, but it has protected the book and dustwrapper heroically well.
An exceptional copy of the deluxe large paper edition of Winnie The Pooh. Examples which have retained the brightness of the pink as here are few and far between.
This US deluxe edition is in some ways nicer than its British counterpart; being printed on Japanese vellum rather than paper, and limited to only 200 copies rather than 350.
